Stumbled upon a website just now which provides a completely unexpected extra feature of Perl:
perl.exe is a process which will sit quietly in the background and block SPAM from your mailbox. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.
Damn - that thing does everything, doesn't it?!

The brilliant thing about Perl is the idea that not only is there more than one way to do it, but you, the programmer, are free to use the best way to express your problem.
Of course, with great power comes great responsibility. And there are always people who will take things way, way, waaaay too far.
