Yeah, surprisingly, eh? After yesterday was such a complete, painful waste, today was enthusiastically pleasant. To begin with, morning was torrid and without life, and I limped into work a little later than usual (but not the foobar that was yesterday). Had a McBreakfast on the way in, and promised myself yet again that I would resort to such horrible means to obtain nutrition in the mornings. Had a late, lazy lunch consequently, which was very nice and oily. (Dinner, if you're curious, was Subway, one of them low-fat subs, delivered to the office by the Boss himself, which was very nice).

While most of today was spent thinking things and putting bits into place, evening and night got very exciting as the final bits of Document.pm and Page.pm came together. Somewhere around six, enough of the code was done that simple upload could be tested. And it was! Much bugfixing later, it worked to a surprisingly large degree, everything sliding perfectly into place and working like a dream! I was so pleased. And then the fun really began.

Let's see: walked to the MRT station, singing loudly as I am wont to do (managed to make it all the way, onto the station, and I think most of the way home singing only Beatles songs. Yum!). The train was crowed, but atleast the airconditioning was working (unlike the morning's train), and it was a smooth ride home. Ice cream. Home. At home, I turned on NGE (so far tonight, I've seen episodes 17:Fourth Children, 18:Ambivalence, 19:Introjection and a part - but hopefully not all! - of 20:Weaving A Story 2: Oral Stage). Somewhere in between I went onto World of Warcraft, where there were huge groups of people, and I had a good time spelunking for quest articles with another elf. My best WoW experience so far!

The bad news - lab stuff. Ugh, ugh, ugh. I don't want to think about it, I want to sleep, to forget, to move on. I hate having multiple things happening all around me for no reason. Ugh, ugh, ugh, no more, no more. Good heavens.

Right now, I figure, I figure I'll do it tomorrow, but I won't. Let's see.

Not my fault, is hard to find. Am vaguely impressed that when I finally bought a copy, it was a strange experience of ending up at the store after closing and buying the last copy off the shelves, when I only ended up going to Jurong Point because the dining-in facilities at the Bukit Batok Pizza Hut had closed for the weekend. So it was pretty unexpected all-in-all.

Good things: the price (dead cheap, 49 SGD for the entire TV series and both movies), and - well - Eva! In all it's brain curdling mind fucking brilliance. Oh dear lord.

Bad things: subtitling pretty rotten (I think it's been translated via Chinese), occasional typing mistakes, titles sometimes not translated, et al. And the main menu is entirely in Chinese, so it's kinda hard to figure out what clicking on different things will do.

Good thing, bad thing? I'd vote for Good - I get all my brainfuck, and can go several more years without actually buying the darned thing. Considering how much of a brainfuck this is - I mean, Brazil, the other bf movie I like, doesn't even come close - I think it should keep me going for quite a while.

Question: when is next at-work Eva marathon? Questions, questions, questions!

It's been a nice week. Lots (far too much) of rushing around, but good food (Subways; hey, it's better than prata!), good company, and very nice computer games. Also: room is nice, neighborhood is nicer, books - oh! books, I finally gave Ursula K. Le Guin a try, and can only regret I didn't try them earlier. Good stuff, that; science fiction in an old-school, Star Trek sense I really find interesting.

I, err, I think that might actually be all for now. Tomorrow: who knows? Hopefully, something exciting and productive, something which will generate me pictures to be putting online etc. In other words, oh God no computer games please oh please oh please please.

Silly Gaurav. Computer games are for weekends! So what are weekends for then, I wonder?

All things considered; hmm, yeah. Not bad. Not awful, at any rate. I:

• Woke up late (but, y'know, late: 2pm-ish. Not 4-5pm-ish like y'day).
• Played Medieval II a lot: the empire was largely being worn down into the ground, although there was a brilliant bit where one of my armies took down, in rapid succession, three armies, each one just slightly smaller than mine (but with a horrible "mix" of troops, mostly footsoldiers, while I had plenty of cavalry as well as solid footsoldier ranks). At the moment, the Egyptians are advancing on Jerusalem, while the Germans are building up troops for a further assault on Zagreb, my northernmost and westernmost city (yes, I lost Venice yesterday, when I attacked the Germans and captured one of their cities, and was immediately and simultaneously attacked by the Milanese and the Sicilians). Still, if I can survive the upcoming attack on Jerusalem while holding my western cities together, I should be able to expand into Egypt and build up a really solid power base ... unless the Mongols get here too soon, obviously (they should be attacking the Turks by now). Ah, computer game madness. Weekend madnesses. Such, I suppose, is life.
• Then I went out running with the guys. Fun.
• After dinner, I came home and slept early, so that I could wake up in a few hours and do my laundry. Also successful.
• While laundry was spinning, I did some planning sketches for M1 and M3; M3 in particular is really sounding promising, if only I could figure out what to do with a set of files. Zip 'em, yes, but what else? Rename? Organise using MP3 ids? What?
• I also watched Lonely Planet Six Degrees: Rio de Janeiro. Later, I got to see a tiny bit of a BBC show on happiness.
• Then I practiced the guitar until my (left hand) fingers were numb.
• Now, just as the sun rises, I descend into oblivion. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll start sorting out my home-office issues, as well as deposit my UK money into the bank. I'm going to have to start cutting financial corners as much as possible for a while!

Still, I am starting to get over my butterflies a little now; figuring that when you've got to survive, you will do what you can to make it through. Let's see, let's see. This summer solstice should be pretty interesting for everybody.

... it's a beautiful day!

1. Showed my papers to the landlord's agent, thus completing formalities - we're staying in Sunset Way for another year!
2. Finally managed to round up the remaining papers, spend a small fortune online on tickets and reservations, and submitted my visa application! Let's see how it goes; it ought to be back by Monday.
3. Got back to lab. Got nothing done, finally gave up and moved on.
4. Had a very nice evening at Orchard. Bought two CDs (Torch the Moon and Nevermind - between this and the CDs sent from home, I should be all set with a ton of new music!), borrowed four books from the NLB (first time eva, etc.), then dinner and ice cream. Nice. Haven't had a really nice just-chill-out-and-chat evening in a while, now.
5. Came back home, chilled out, then had a bit of some very excellent kheema (mincemeat) prepared by my amazing apartmentmates. All-in-all, today, I consumed one breakfast, two lunches, two dinners, and one ice-cream. I mean, seriously. Wow.

So, yeah, nice day. I'm decently sleepy now and all, so I'll go, but I thought it important to remember that even in the unending sameness of life there's always room for a little ripple or two.
